My name is Yunhong (Robert) Deng. I am a first-year math PhD student at Department of MSCS of UIC.
I obtained my MS degree in Mathematics at UMN. During this unforgettable time at Minnesota, I worked with Prof. Max Engelstein on mean curvature flow and Allen-Cahn equation, and with Prof. Li Wang on optimal transport and Wasserstein gradient flow.
I got my BS degree at UESTC (Chengdu, China) under the guidance of Prof. Chaozhen Wei. I worked with him on computational optimal transport.

I am currently working on some unresolved problems in optimal transport of particle flows, and geometric analysis of minimal surfaces, from my previous studies. The main subject is about investigating the uniqueness of the energy minimizers, and understanding the spectrum of the Hessian at minimizers, which dictate the quantitive behavior of gradient flows around equilibrium through the principal of linearization.
Something I wish to learn in the near future:
1. Regularity theory of free boundary problems
2. Micro-local analysis of wave equations
3. Monte Carlo methods

In my free time, I love reading fiction stories and listening music. I had been a guitar player in my undergrad rock & roll band for 2 years.
